What inspired you to start playing music?
What didn’t inspire me is a better question. Music has always felt innate to me, we had a piano in our living room growing up and I was always banging on that thing. My multi-focused brain has led me to play over 10 instruments in my lifetime. I don’t remember a time that I wasn’t singing, I have echolalia (a fixation on repeating phrases or melodies over and over again vocally) so I just never really stop. I hear music everywhere I go, birdsong, the rhythm of traffic, the hum of an air conditioner. We’re surrounded by it!
Who are some of your musical inspirations?
I know it’s vague and cheesy to say everything once again, but it’s truly how I feel – my earliest memories are around our local Great Oldies station, thinking Mamas and the Papas, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Elton John, Queen, just all of the greats! In high school I got fixated on the Great American Songbook and trip hop with a dash of emo punk. There’s no genre I can’t find something I like in. Every artist, genre, and era is a different time machine or vessel to jump in and find a new feeling or vibe in. If I resonate with a lyric or just a damn good hook, I’m in.
What was the injury that brought you to MTF, and how did the injury affect your music?
After about 5 years of playing the guitar live in Austin, I started having chronic neck and shoulder pain. It meant I couldn’t play those long three-hour brewery gigs that was my bread and butter at the time. As a musician, it’s always a hustle between your music gigs and side gigs but this pain was cutting me out of both for a while. I was unemployed for a time and searching for work that could accommodate what I thought would be my new normal.
What was your experience with receiving care through MTF and your recovery afterward?
Through MTF, I was able to actually afford seeing an experienced orthopedist and then a physical therapist who taught me all the nifty tips and tricks that make playing music for hours at a time more sustainable. Proper alignment and care, exercises to address the areas weakened by overuse, and how to supplement with opposing muscles. I was able to recover much more quickly because I received this care!
What’s coming up for you?
I just released a punchy burnout anthem “The Light” on July 29th and my next show’s at CBoy’s with fellow badasses Next of Kin on September 6th. Album incoming 2026!
